I’m Derek — the creative heart behind Derek J. Waksmunski Photography LLC, based in the beautiful Florida Keys. My journey into photography began with a fascination for the stars and a lifelong connection to nature. Growing up in the backwoods of rural Pennsylvania, I learned to appreciate stillness, simplicity, and the raw beauty of the world around me.

What started as a hobby shared with my dad — capturing comets and starry skies — transformed into a calling the moment I photographed my first solar eclipse. That image sparked something profound: the desire to tell stories through light, movement, and emotion.

Over the years, my camera has taken me across the globe — from the reefs of Bonaire and Australia to the shores of St. Lucia and Cancun — each place deepening my perspective as both an artist and conservationist. Today, I call South Florida home, where the Florida Keys serve as my endless source of inspiration. From the golden glow of sunset to the tranquil beauty beneath the waves, every frame is a reflection of this extraordinary place.

As a solo photographer, I offer a personalized experience for every client. Whether documenting an engagement, milestone celebration, or underwater adventure, I focus on creating timeless, authentic imagery that captures both the moment and the feeling.

With credentials as an FAA Part 107 Certified Drone Pilot and an PADI Divemaster, I bring a unique blend of aerial precision and underwater expertise to my work.
